Top Impacted Wisdom Teeth Removal Dentist

How do you remove impacted wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth is something which you would find yourself to be quite familiar with. On the other hand, impacted wisdom teeth removal might be a completely new thing for you. Even though you might be under the mistaken belief that it would not happen to you, you would be surprised to find how common it has actually become. So, if you would like to know more about it, continue reading below. In this way, you would know how to effectively deal with it.

What are partially impacted wisdom teeth?

An impacted tooth would be a tooth that would get blocked as it would be pushing through the gum in to your mouth, in most cases, wisdom teeth would usually appear between the ages of 17 and 21. Dentists tend to refer to these teeth as third molars. The reason they might become impacted is because there might not be enough room in your mouth to accommodate them. It might also happen that a wisdom tooth might be tilted in your jaw or trying to come in sideways.

The thing about impacted wisdom tooth is that it could be so painless that you would not even know that it is there in the first place. However, when it would try to come in, the flap of gum located on top could become swollen and infected which could then hurt.

Some of the symptoms of impacted wisdom teeth include:

  • Swelling of gum taking place at the back of your mouth
  • Difficulty in opening your jaw
  • Bad breath
  • A bad taste in your mouth
  • Experiencing pain when opening your mouth
  • Pain when biting or chewing.

Diagnosis

In terms of diagnosis, your dentist would examine the affected area. If necessary, X-rays might also be taken. This would be able to show your wisdom teeth and whether they have become impacted or not.

Expected duration

When the tooth would be taken out, the symptoms would go away.

Prevention

The sad part is that there is no way to prevent an impacted tooth. On the other hand, you would be able to prevent cavities through daily brushing and flossing.

Partial impacted wisdom tooth removal

Sometimes, you might be able to relieve minor irritation by rinsing with warm salt water. You would also find that over the counter medication could help to relieve pain. However, if the tooth would continue causing you pain and distress, then the usual treatment would involve remove the wisdom tooth out. In this case, it would take around 5 to 30 minutes, depending on where it is located. In some cases, an infection would require antibiotics.

After the surgery, you might experience swelling of the jaw and cheeks. It may also become hard to eat certain foods. In this case, you should follow your surgeon or dentist’s instructions carefully in order to get the best recovery.

In some cases, you would also find that the wisdom tooth is not bothering you or your nearby teeth. In this case, you might not require an immediate treatment. But it would be best that your tooth be removed in order to avoid future problems.
